Mrs. Eichbergers
September 25, 2003 A Typical Day We are establishing our daily routine in first grade. A typical day goes as follows.
Enrichment Schedule
Please make sure your child wears tennis shoes on Fridays and clothes that could potentially get dirty on Wednesdays. Students Work Your child will be bringing homework from the week in their Thursday Folder. Please look through their work with them. Their writing will contain corrections of words from our word wall. I will also write out words so that YOU may understand what they were trying to write. Students need only to correctly spell words that are on ourword wall. This weeks words were; WE, WITH, HAVE, A, SEE, and MY. Most math work is done with manipulatives in the classroom and in their math workbook. |
Social Studies We read Lilys Purple Plastic Purse (a class favorite) and discussed why it is important to have rules in our classroom. This served as an introduction for our first Core Democratic Value, Common Good. Arts We usually sing while we wash our hands and line up for lunch. Weve been learning songs like Miss Polly, Have you ever seen a Lassie, and I Know an Old Lady. Our favorite song is All around the kitchen. Have you child show you the dance and sing the song. Its really cute! We also read the Root Children and talked about roots. We made gnome creatures out of little twigs and glued on felt hats. We will play with them during indoor recess. Language Our story of the week was Our Five Senses. On Wednesday experienced our five senses by tasting lemons, pretzels, and sliced ginger; listening to the piano, maracas, and voices; feeling stuffed animals, sand paper, fruit, and lemons; and smelling essential oils and soaps. We then wrote about our experiences with our five senses. Math We have been discussing the elements of a calendar. Each student made a September calendar. Students have also been comparing larger and smaller numbers through a game called "Top it." Ongoing practice continues with making tally marks and practicing our numbers. This week was a perfect week for the introduction to the thermometer. We identified temperature zones by using colors. Red 80 - 90 degrees, Blue 20 - 30 degrees, etc geichberger@manistee.org |
