Language Arts

Our story of the week was One Red Rooster.

We wrote about our favorite animal and made sentences with rhyming words.

At this point, all students should use a capital letter in the first word of a sentence, as well as end each sentence with the correct punctuation (a period or exclamation mark). When you look over your child’s writing, you will usually corrections if they forgot do capitalize or punctuate. Occasionally I will correct a misspelled word or re-write a sentence so that you will understand what they meant to write. All students are encouraged to sound out words that they do not know how to spell correctly. This is known as phonetic spelling.

Nutritious Snacks

Please make sure your child brings a nutritious snack to school each day. Fruit, granola bars, and crackers with cheese are great snacks!

Math

Our math studies continue with counting objects in and around the classroom, as well as using our number line to compare numbers. We have also been listening to number stories to learn about "one more and one less."

Storyteller and Musician to perform for Elementary Students

Patty Clark, a member of the National Storytellers Association will tell traditional, multicultural and original stories that address the universal concerns of every culture. Clark will accompany herself on guitar, dulcimer, and autoharp. This performance will take place in our library on Friday, Sept. 19 from 12:45 - 1:30 PM.

Our classroom is in need of acorns and small beach stones for math and science. If you are spending the weekend at the beach or around an oak tree, we would appreciate some! They may be sent with your child or brought in before or after school.
