Language

Our story of the week was A Mother for Chaco. A lonely bird sets off in search of a mother. He finds Mrs. Bear who comforts him and cheers him up, and realizes that she will be the perfect mother.

Science

We identified the four stages of the dandelion. The first is closed bud, where the bracts tightly surround the bud. Next is the open flower, where the petals are all out. Then is the closed up old flower which shows the brownish yellow petals pushed up and white fluff. Finally, the mature seed head in which the platform for the seeds has swollen to help separate the seeds. The white fluff is no expanded here. Students sketched the dandelions and then identified the stage in which their dandelion was.

Spelling Test Tomorrow

Our words for the week are: gave, first, next, together, and would.

May Day Celebration See our Page

The children enjoyed May Day Festival very much, as did I. Thanks to all the parents who contributed by making head pieces, and refreshments for the event. It was a very memorable time.

Math

We have been making change for amounts less than $1.00. We also were introduced to fractional parts of a whole. Students did activities to identified ¼’s (fourths) 1/3’s(thirds) and ½’s (halves).
