Language and Science

Our story of the week was A Frog’s Life. We identified the four stages of the frog life cycle beginning with the egg, followed by the tadpole and then it’s growth into an adult frog. We discussed where frogs lived and found out what they ate. We even have 6 tadpoles living in our classroom! They are contained in a small tank, which simulates a pond. We named them Wolf, Joshua, Maggie, Tillie, Nemo, and Sunlight. Students wrote about the life cycle of a frog. The tadpoles should become frogs before our school year ends. We’ll release them in the park or the woods near the school.

 Math

Our study of fractions continue with exploring the idea that fractional parts of the whole must be equal. Students were introduced to fraction notation. They also wrote the fractions to label fractional parts in geometric figures.

Yesterday, we went outside (it was a beautiful day) and we measure distances and circumference with our tape measures. We measure the distance around the biggest trees and the smallest trees on our playground, the distance between two trees, leaves, branches, and dandelions.
