Language We are finishing up our hardcover books for the Manistee ISD Writer and Illustrator Day. Each child was given a plain hardcover book. We used the writing process of Drafting, Editing, Proofing, and Publishing. Some of the book titles included; My Baby Sister, All about Horses, My Little Horse, My First Time at Florida, The Very Weird Chickens, My Cat Woogie, Bernices Baking Book, and The Winter Dragon. Our story of the week was If you give a moose a muffn. We created invitations for an imaginary party. We included all the important information that must go on an invitation date, time place, name of event, etc Science We identified mammals, birds, and fish. Mrs. Barnard came into our classroom, and we watched her dye some fabric for our quilt. Arts The children created sock puppets of their favorite animals. We will use them as characters in favorite stories or in a story of their own. Math We were introduced to addition/subtraction fact families this week. We also started our second math journal! Children used dominos and pennies as a source for number triples. They practiced generating fact families for number triples. Example 3, 6, 9 3+6=9 |
READ! READ! READ! Since the beginning of the school year, your child has made remarkable progress, developing new reading skills and acquiring new interests and abilities. Now is wonderful time to nurture those changes with books that challenge, stimulate, and inspire. Thanks to those who returned their books orders. If you missed our book order opportunity, there will be another one in April. School book orders are a relatively inexpensive way to build your at-home library. Also, taking your children to the library every two weeks is a great family ritual. Its also a free public service! The more you read with your child, the better the reader they will become. Please note the following dates on your calendar.
