Mrs. Eichberger's First Grade
March 4, 2004
Language
We have begun our month long celebration of Dr. Seuss’s 100th Birthday.  This week we read The Sneetches.  Some Sneetches have stars on their bellies, and some don’t.  Conflict ensues.  Tolerance prevails.

In this story we identified and used words with -ing  and -ed endings.  We also identified the rhyming words in the story.   Other Dr. Seuss stories we read were The Zax, Too Many Daves, What was I Scared of? , Green Eggs and Ham, Oh Say can you Say Dinosaur?, Stop that Ball, and If I ran a Zoo.

If you could teach a Sneetch something what would you teach it?  Here are what some of the students wrote:

“I would teach a Sneetch to take care. I would teach a Sneetch to ride a bike.”

“I would teach a Sneetch to share.”

I would teach a Sneetch  that everybody is nice inside but they are not nice inside.”

“I would teach a Sneetch to read.”

“These are two things I would teach a Sneetch, no matter if they have a star or not they are all the same inside, and respect each other.”

“I would teach a Sneetch to have fun together and to be friends and family too, but most of all to have each other.”

Dr. Seuss Month
The entire school will be celebrating Dr. Seuss’s legacy with many activities and events.  Next week, Don Stroup will be impersonating Dr. Seuss in our Media Center from 8:45 - 9:15 AM.

On March 17, every student will have the opportunity to dress as their favorite Dr. Seuss character.  On March 19 our cafeteria will serve a green eggs and ham breakfast!

Math
We have been adding two digit numbers. We also made up stories comparing the weights of animals.  The penguin weights 75 pounds and the beaver weighs 56 pounds.  Which animal is the heaviest?

Spelling Test Tomorrow
Please practice spelling words with your child tonight.  Have a great weekend.
