Mrs. Eichberger's January 8, 2004 Welcome Back! Reading Test In our first week back, the students took a reading test, which covered the following; phonics/decoding words, comprehension, and writing. The test was broken up into three parts. The results will be shared with you in the upcoming report card. Math We have begun our unit of measurement. Students measured objects in the classroom using nonstandard units (arm spans, paces, digits) as well as the U.S. units of inches and feet. Measuring objects at home with your child would be a fun way to spend time together. Social Studies We are learning about Justice and Fairness. We read about Ruby Bridges who challeneged the law during the time of segregation. We also read a story by Leo Lionni called, "It's Mine. It's Mine" was about three selfish frogs who bicker all day long. But a bad storm comes, and a big brown toad helps them to realize that sharing is much more fun. |
Science We read about the recent space robot, “Spirit” landing on Mars. We read that Mars was very cold and it’s landscape contained craters and volcanoes. We then wrote about what it would be like if we were to land on Mars. Some of the responses were as follows; "If I went to Mars, I would fly around and meet some marshens and I might find the marshen that they sint to Mars to discoer mars." "If I went to mars I would try to fly and run away from aliens. And if a alien ws nice to me and I wod be nice to them too." "It would take you 12 hours to git there.I would stay there forever. I would want to stay and camp out." Mrs. Eichberger's Main Page |
