Second Marking Period Ends

Report cards and narratives for the second marking period will be sent home January 29. Your child’s growth and goals for continued progress will be highlighted.

Language

Our stories for the week for The Doorbell Rang by Pat Hutchins. We acted out the story and wrote our own endings to the story. The Keeping Quilt by Patricia Pollacco, a story about a families heritage was shared in class. We made our own keeping quilts on paper and wrote about what made them special to us.

We also read The Sled, an adapted version from Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House Series. We wrote about our sledding rules at school. They are:

  • Always wear hats, boots, mittens, and snowpants.
  • Walk uphill on the other side of the orange cones.
  • If you fall off your sled, get off, and walk back up.
  • Take turns and share.
Spelling Test

We have been taking spelling tests to help us spell better. Starting next week, a spelling test will be given each Friday.

Each test will consist of five words.

Math

We counted and graphed our mittens and hats. We also measure several objects in our classroom, and created 1 inch pattern designs.

It’s Mine!

We are reading a play from the book, “It’s Mine” by Leo Lionni. It is about three selfish frogs who bicker all day long. Each child has at least one speaking line. Your child will be able to take home their scripts. Their lines will be highlighted. Please listen to your child read their line at home. The play will be performed during the school day. The exact time and date will be forthcoming. I will be sure to give you at least one week notice.

NOTE TO PARENTS***

The approaching third marking period is the time of year when a bulk of your child’s learning will occur. Come spring, your child’s main priority will be to get outside and play. Take advantage of these long cold nights by making time to read with your child.
