Mrs. Eichberger's First
Grade News April 8, 2004 |
April is National Poetry month. Each child is writing their own “Seasonal Poetry Books.” Each book contains a five senses poem for each season. They will be presented at next week’s parent teacher conferences.
We are reading the books of Beatrix Potter, the lady who wrote for children. Ms. Potter was born in London, England in 1866. She spent most of her young life drawing and observing animals. Her most famous story is the Tale of Peter Rabbit. We wrote about what we knew of rabbits.
Children were introduced to the quarter. We practiced counting by 25’s and related the quarter to money, time, and fractions. We also practice measuring in centimeters.
We began each morning with stretching so we able to sit a little extra longer during our testing time. The tests were taken in short periods lasting approximately 30 minutes each. We finished the last portion of the test today. The results will be sent to each parent via mail.

We also planted our very own garden consisting of tomatoes, peppers, lavender, and zinnias. Most students already knew that the key elements for plant growth were air, water, sun, and soil. We are documenting our garden’s growth in the Green Thumb Gazette.
