Mrs. Eichberger's First Grade News

Our stories this week were The Legend of the Lady’s Slipper. It is a tale of a young maiden’s run to save the people of her village. The pink and white flowers of the lady’s slipper that carpet the ground each spring are a tribute to her courage and sacrifice.

We also read Arnold Shrinks, a story about a boy who dreams that he becomes very tiny. Students wrote about what it would be like if they shrunk and if they became a giant.

Finally, we read Clever Beatrice, a story of a girl who tricks a giant. This plot is similar to that of the Brave Little Seamstress.

Math

We’ve been identifying the names of 3-dimensional shapes-pyramid, cone, and cube - and discussing their characteristics. We also drew spheres, cylinders, and cubes. Today, we created symmetrical designs on paper, with polygon shapes, and with our geo-plate templates.

Spelling Test Tomorrow

Our words of the week are;

Parents, mother, water, room, and home.

Snacks

We have snack everyday at 10:00 AM.

Please make sure you send a snack with your child everyday. A few parents have donated snacks for our snack cupboard throughout the year. To make things less cumbersome for everyone, it would be best if each child brought their own snack. If you wish to donate snacks to the emergency snack cupboard, please send in something healthy. We really appreciate the generosity of the parents who have sent in snacks throughout the year.

MayDay Festival

The May Day Festival will take place next Friday, April 20 from 12:30 - 2:30 pm. Mrs. Feil and Mrs. Lowe have volunteered to make headpieces and hats for all the boys and girls. We are still in need of refreshments as well as nylon on polyester ribbon at least 5 inches in width. Detailed information on the festival is located on our webpage under the April 15 newsletter.
