Can cheerleaders cheer boys Basketball to Victory?
Column written by Katie

This year the boy’s basketball team hasn’t been going as good as planed. The team has a lot of good players but they aren’t as tall as the other team’s. The Portagers versed the freesoil Pirates. The game was on the 20th of January. This game was played at home like all of the others. The Portagers lost 12 to 25. They probably lost on account of the other team was way bigger. Could the cheerleaders get the crowd more "rowdie"?

The cheerleading coach is Megan Mattson. She plus some of the sixth graders taught us a lot of cheers. We have practice almost every Tuesday. I try to cheer really hard and practice hard too. Will fifth grade boy’s basketball ever win? We’ll find out on Saturday.

Last Saturday the boys played against Kaleva Norman Dickson. I was cheerleader for Onekama. The people who were cheerleaders were Katie, Anja, Angela, Ashley and me. The score was 6 to 12. We lost. We had 6 and Kaleva had 12.

One of the cheers we did was rowdie. Another one was hot to go. My favorite one is success. There was some kids from 3rd and 4th grade there. We let them cheer with us.

On Saturday 18 i† was the fifth grade boys 3rd basketball game. It was a very close game, but Kaleva Norman Dickinson did win. Only by one tiny point. They both played a good game though.

I think the cheerleaders had lots of fun and did very well. After the game our coach was proud of us and the boy’s basketball coach was proud of them. He said, "I am very proud of the boys even though they lost, witch was only by one point.
