Investigating Water

What we did in our experiment is connect a battery to a wire and two pencils and put them in water. The reason we did that was to separate hydrogen from oxygen in water. It worked because we connected it all to a 9 v battery.

Today we did an experiment. Mrs. Eldridge asked us if we could separate oxygen and hydregen. Most of us said YES and we were right. For are experiment we connected two metal wires to a battiry. And took a cardboard card and passed the pencil through it. Then we taped it two the other end that was sharpened. We got a cup with 150 mL of water with baking soda in it. We placed the two ends that went through the card in the water. When we connected the battery these little tinny bubbles came out and that is how we separated oxygen and hydrogen. ...Alex

Our experiment was successful. I learned that you can separate the oxygen and hydrogen in water. ...Haley

We could see the water produce air by the bubbles on the end of the pencil points. My group was Kailani, Haley and me. We got to work and did a good job. ...Zac

One pencil had more bubbles on it. That was the hydrogen pencil. The other pencil was the oxygen pencil. There was more hydrogen...Kailani

I learned that the water separates into H on one pencil point and O on the other point. We needed to use two pencils, a 9v battery and wires. ...Mike

We filled the beaker with 150 mL of water and added one teaspoon of baking soda to make the water conduct electricity better. ...Ricki

What we did was take a cup, an index card, wire, two pencils and a battery. What we were supposed to try to do was make bubbles come at the end of the pencil. First it didn't work because Crystal didn't hook it up right . Then Chanel took it apart and put it together and it still didn't work. And then the teacher came over and took a picture of us all. Almost everybody elses did work except ours. ...Cheyenne

I learned that water can split up. We messed up ours and had to borrow some one elses stuff. It did not work either. ...Joe

Today we started a science project. We learned that if you have one battery, two pencils, some wire and a glass of water, you can separate water into two gasses.. We taped the wires around the pencil lead and put the other end of the wir on to the battery. We waited a while and then it worked but not that much. ...Chanel
