We began our unit by Investigating the Motion of a Pendulum

Each group started with 5 dominoes, a meter stick, masking tape, string and a bobber. They were to create a pendulum and investigate its motion. Finally they wrote their observations.

The pendulum is the fastest when you first let go of the bobber. It is the slowest when it hits a lot of dominoes. That really slows it down. ...Cody

It took one try to knock down eighteen dominoes using the domino effect. Everybody else was trying to get them one at a time. ...Danny

We controlled the pendulum by swinging it to the side. We also controlled it by swinging it back and forth. Plus we controlled by swinging it to a curve and letting go of it really high up. ...Katie

The bobber goes fastest when you first let go and it starts getting slower until it stops. ...Chase

The pendulum moves the slowest when it is farthest away from us and when it is closest to us. It goes the fastest in the middle. ...Jordon

Matt dropped it from a 90† angle and then it took 2 swings to knock all the dominoes down. ...Jordon

It takes about five circular swings to knock down all the dominoes. It usually takes about ten straight swings for it to get them all down. The pendulum takes them all down with about 7 diagonal swings. ...Katherine

When we would swing it gently it would go the slowest, and when we really chuck it, then it goes faster. ...Anja

If you wanted its motion to be faster you had to kind of throw it but if you want to go slow you just drop it. You can turn it by dropping it at an angle and then it will come back in a different direction. ...Jonathan

It is fastest at first because there is more force in the beginning. It is the slowest at the end because the force slows down. You controled the direction of the pendulum by stopping it and pointing it in the direction you want it to go. We changed the direction by just sort of pushing it the way you want it to go. It takes round 23 swings to knock down all of the dominoes. Really, you could get pretty much of anything it just depends on how you do it. ...Katlyn

When I pushed the bobber in a circular motion it would go in circles. If I pushed it on an angle it would go diagonally. ...Jake

It took one swing to knock down 18 dominoes in a chain reaction. It took two strikes to knock down Chinatown. ...Chase

It took 13 swings for the pendulum to knock down all the dominoes. ...Thomas

It was moving the slowest when we just slitly pushed it and it moved the fastest when we threw it. ...Orion

We would drop the bobber from different heights and we would throw it hard and soft. We also swung it in a circular motion. ...Joe F.

The bobber went faster when it's more down by the ground because it gained speed when it moved. ...Angela

What we did to control the pendulum's motion was by putting the pendulum into a different angle and then give it a drop. ...Ashley H.

At first I went forward to back. Then I started to do it in a circle. That got the most dominoes down. ...Elizabeth
