Mr. Goodrich Helps Out
Katherine

Mr. Goodrich collects materials from the Civil War to present to students. He does this for enjoyment. Mr. Goodrich was in the navy for a long time but he started when he was only nineteen. His great great great grandfather fought and died in the Civil War.

Mr. Goodrich showed us lots of different kinds of bullets and weapons. He also gave us food they had to eat in the Civil War. What I thought was the most intrusting though was the movie showing what had happened and that sort of stuff. It was all incredibly intrusting.

Mr. Civil War

When Mr. Goodrich came to Miss Bishop’s class he told us about the Civil War. Mr. Goodrich brought a lot of things he collected. There were really neat things like weapons, a lantern, cloths and more. Also there was a knife like thing that slipped on the front of the gun. It was called a bayonet. Also Mr. Goodrich had shown us what the people in war carried in their bags.

They would carry pans, knives, forks, spoons, and clothes. When the people’s bag would get too heavy the first thing that they would throw out was their heavy coat and the pan. Back then the clothes were made of wool. Wool was heavy and was the most easiest to get. Mr. Goodrich also brought in hardtack and beef jerky witch was really good. I enjoyed when Mr. Goodrich came in. It was really neat and I hope that he comes back again.

I learned that Mr. Goodrich does reenactments of the Civil War. They do it to honor the men who died in the Civil War. Mr. Goodrich goes all around the country doing reenactments. In reenactments you don’t use bullets just smoke.

I also learned that as the war went on the higher the technology got. A lot of bullets were invented in the Civil War. Mr. Goodrich's great great grandpa was in the war. Mr. Goodrich's great great grandpa was in the D — Battery.

Mr. Goodrich goes around to places and reenacts different battles that went on during the Civil War. Mr. Goodrich showed us different kinds of guns.

Mr. Goodrich also showed us a knife that can go on the end of the gun. Mr. Goodrich is a sergeant when they reenact battles. They don’t use any bullets, or shoot any can balls at anybody. Mr. Goodrich found parts of a canon ball after it blow up. He also found one that didn't blow up.

Yesterday I learned a lot about the Civil War. A man named Mr. Goodrich came to teach us about the Civil War. He brought in gun, swards, bullets and shells. They mostly used cannons muskets and six shooter pistols. The muskets had a bayonet on the barrel of the gun. The bayonet was used to charge and stab people. He also brought swards in. There were two kinds of swards. The first kind was a pointing sward and the second kind was a slashing sward.

He also brought in some of the food they ate. They ate hard tack like bred and jerky. They both were real good.

Yesterday January 30, 2003 Mr. Goodrich came in and told us about the Civil War. He also told us his Grate, Grate, Grate Grandfather was in the War. He brought in supplies that people used in the Civil War. Mr. Goodrich baked food that tasted and looked like what they ate in the Civil War.

We watched a movie about the Civil War, but they weren’t the real people in the Civil War. Mr. Goodrich said that he was in the Civil War movie shooting of the canyons. There were no real bullets in the canyons or in the guns they shot at the people. There was only gunpowder. Mr. Goodrich said he went to Virginia too get some of his supplies. I liked it when Mr. Goodrich came to are school and talked about the Civil War.

Listening to Mr. Goodrich was very interesting. I was the photographer and I got to take a lot of pictures of Civil war artifacts. He was a nice man who had a lot to show and it was cool. He had guns, swords, bullets and shells.

He had a lot of information and was in the navy himself. His Great, great, great grand father was in the Civil war. He also is in a reenactment group. He gave us food they ate in the war. Learning about the Civil war was fun.

Yesterday Mr. Goodrich came in and talked about the Civil War. He brought in guns, long knives and a lot more. He also brought in jerky and hard tack. The jerky was just like regular jerky. The hard tack was like a hard cracker. I learned a lot about the Civil War. Mr. Goodrich was wearing a uniform. He passed around bullets that they used in the war. One was pure lead. He passed around pictures of cannons too. One of the cannons was firing. That is what happened yesterday with Mr. Goodrich.
