Each Third Grader is Busily Writing a Report to Present to the Class. The topic of each report is Animal Habitats.

Bengal Tiger
Alex W.

Male Bengal tigers weigh 500 pounds and are 10 feet long. They stand 1 yard high. They walk, pounce, or run on four feet. The Bengal tiger is orange with black, brown or grey stripes. It has thick fur and a white belly. Tigers are warm blooded. Tigers breathe with lungs.

Bengal tigers live in tropical jungles, marsh lands, and in tall grass. They live in Asia mostly in India. The climate is hot. Tigers are carnivores. Tigers eat 88 pounds of meat in one meal. They eat wild pigs, deer, antelope, and buffalo. Tiges need water for eating, drinking, and cooling off. Humans hunt tigers to make medicine from tiger bones. That's one reason why there are less than 3,000 Bengal tigers left in the wild.

Bengal tigers can live in jungles because there is grass to match their tiger stripes. Tigers hunt at dusk or dawn. They hide in the grass to pounce on it's prey. Tigers can live in jungles because there is a lot of water. Many big animals live in the jungles. Tigers search and hunt big animals to eat. Bengal tiger's can't survive in deserts because it is too hot for their thick shaggy fur. The desert doesn't have lots of water, tall grass, or big animals for the Bengal tiger's needs of life.

The Perch
Cody

A perch is a type of fish. It has scales and swims through the water. A perch breathes with its gils. The state record for yellow perch in weight is 3 pounds 12 ounces. Tha is about 21 inches long. A male perch has a little bit of dark blue on it and the female perch has a little bit of light blue on it. Perch are a cold bloded animal.

A perch's habitat is in a lake. Perch spawn in the spring. They lay their eggs in weed beds in shallow water and also in deep water. They also lay their eggs on or near wood structures such as old boards, logs, or rock formations. Perch like to eat cactus flies, crawfish, minnows, earthworms. and many water bugs. Larger fish such as salmon, pike, bass and trout feed on smaller perch.

Perch can live in our lakes because there are many bugs, flies and minnows in the water. Perch can survive in warm or cold water so even in the winter you can still cut a hole in the ice and fish for perch.

Cody wrote, "I had a lot of fun doing this. It was very hard work. My mom and dad helped me on it."

Alex wrote of his report, "My animle is a Puffin. My material was a nest and clay and rocks. I made the dad one fly. I made my animal in a shoe box. I did sea weed and a tree to show my plants. My other animals are a crab, a fish and a seagull."
The class listened as Kyle stood up and gave his report on the bald eagle. He wrote about his report, "My animals is a Bald Eagle. they eat road kill. My sister and mom and dad helped me make it. Some of it is real and some of it is fake. I learned that they're carnavors. Some baby Bald Eagles don't have white heads. They are our national bird."
Nathalie wrote, "My animal is the River Otter. Other animals live in his habitat too. Like deer, fish, birds. Those were the animals in my habitat. I have a beaver dam but not a beaver. We did not have a beaver bcause we could not find one. My mom did more work than I did. My dad and sister helped too. I have trees, grass, and a moose. I have rocks.
Madalyn spoke about the Kangaroo. She wrote of her report, "My animal is the Kangaroo. Kangaroos live in Australia. They live all over Australia. I made my Kangaroo out of Clay and Stone. I painted it after wards."
Erin investigated the Polar Bear. She said, "My animal was a polar bear. I made it with clay, paint, glass and styrafome. My other animal is a fish. The day I made my Polar bear was December 6. I had tundra and grass for my plants."
Louise chose the Chimpanzee
