The Energizer Bunnies Take 5th at The Manistee County Book Bowl
Anna

On April 23 we went to book bowl. It was great! For a couple of months we’ve been reading 10 books. Those books are Stone Fox, From the of Mrs., Basil E. Frankweiler Mixed up Files, Birch Bark House, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, The Wish Giver, The War With Grandpa, Big Red, Holes, Number the Stars and Bridge to Teribithia. Then when we went to Kennedy we were asked questions about those books.

The first game we played took forever. We had six extra tie breaker rounds (that’s twelve extra questions). When it was finally over we had won. The score was 55-50. We easily won the next game. The score for that game was 15-31. The third game was a bit harder than the other one was but when we finally won we happily shouted and clapped our hands. The fourth game we lost. Later, after lunch and recess, we played again. That game we lost too. We were out of the competition but we still got 5th place out of 28 teams. I think that’s pretty good.

We lost our first two games because one of are players didn’t show up. (He was sick.) We had a lot of fun though just hanging out with other teams that lost their first two games too. Like some of the Bear Lake kids that are my friends.

We got to eat after games if you have a sack lunch or whenever. I liked to watch the other kids play games and win. I liked the book it was a lot of fun to go meet some friends from Kennedy.

On Tuesday we went to book bowl. We left just before 9:00. The bus ride was short. I was exited. We easily won our first game. We lost badly our next game. Sadly we played the MCC Sabers next. We lost by a lot. I gladly ate lunch. Next we went outside. Leena, and I played on the swings then walked around. After a wile we played on the swings with Andria, and Stacey. Sadly we had to go inside a few minutes later. When we went inside I closely watch the Energizer Bunnies, and Radical Readers play. Sadly the Energizer Bunnies lost. Then we I watched the next competitions. After that were the finals. The MCC Sabers won 1st place. After that we went back to school.

On the day of the Book Bowl Competition there were 28 teams and we came in 6th place out of all of them. Our first game we lost badly 20 to 28. It was a very hard game. Then our second game we won barley by 3 points and we were happy because it was double illumination . Then we won 3 more games and the next game we lost very bad and the score was something like 5 to 28 and then we all were sad but we still were happy we made it that far.

Yesterday everyone in the fifth grade class at Onekama went to Kennedy school for a Book Bowl competition. Our team Finan’s Favorites won one game and lost two other ones. After we were out of the competition we could go and watch some games against other schools. Some of my friends and I watched the final matches battling for third, second, and first place. My old school Manistee Catholic Central that I used to go to got second place out of all of the teams. When I went to that school I was on their Book Bowl team but then I switched over to Onekama and I went on one of their Book Bowl teams. After the first round of games we had lunch and then we went to recess at their school they have an hour and twenty-five minutes of recess! Our team did really well but as soon as we lost our two games against Kaleva Elementary and the Kennedy Bookeneers we were out of the competition.

Book Bowl was great! What you do to prepare is to read 10 different books. Here they are, Holes, Bridge to Terabithia, Big Red, Number the Stars, From the Mixed up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, The Wish Giver, Stone Fox, Birch Bark House, and The War With Grandpa. My team was the Hawaii’s Hawaiian Energizer Bunnies. We finished disappointedly as 5th out of 28 teams.

Our first game was against Kalava Elementary. We won 55 to 50 and we were eager to move on. There were six amazing tiebreaker rounds. They finally got one wrong and we got one right. We excitedly won the next game 31 to 15. The next game we won, hoping to make it far. We sadly lost against the team that ended up getting first. Well, I had a good time at Book Bowl.

Rocking Reader’s Book Bowl Day

When we went to Book Bowl April 25, 2002 my team, the Rocking Reader’s lost two games and won three. Our team worked hard to read all ten books. I read seven books. My favorite book was Holes and The Birchbark House.

The winners of Book Bowl were the Reading Wizards. I had a blast, it was fun to check out Kennedy school. Some of my friends from dance class go to Kennedy, so I got to play with them at recess. We ate lunch at 11:20. Their playground was huge! They had a lot of cool excitement. My favorite thing to climb on was the pull-up bars. My friends and I, from Onekama, played on the pull-up bars almost the whole recess. I am glad I went to go to Kennedy.

April 23, 02 our class went to Kennedy school for the Book Bowl tournament. We had to read ten books and then have difficult questions asked to your team from those long books. My team played six games and quickly won four. I think our second team we played kind of had a funny name, their name was the Bear Lake No Good Dirty Rotten Readers. My team name was the Shadows. When it was lunch our team hungrily ran to the cafeteria. Our team got sixth place out of twenty-eight teams! But our team had a very lot of fun playing.
