With much excitement, the fifth graders prepared for their first band concert by "warming up" in Mrs. Eldridge's room.

My First Band Concert!
Gabe D.

On Tuesday night December 18, 2001 I had my first band concert! I was so excited but a little scared! I hoped that I would not be a bad player for a beginner.

At 6:30PM we practiced before the concert. I sounded good practicing so I half thought that I would do great at the concert! It was a good thing I practiced so I could get a feeling that I would do great! About 29 Minutes later at about 6:59PM we started to go to the gym and perform!

I felt a little scared at first but was willing to impress my audience so I got a little braver! Finally at 7:00PM we played! I was surprised I played so well for a beginner! I played like 5 or6 songs and my grade was done!

Just because we finished we could not leave! Instead we went to the bleachers and watch the older kids play! I felt a little bored but I got used to it! But they played like I never heard higher grades play before! They played a lot less songs than we did but they’re playing sounded like they’re playing a different instrument than the one in they were holding! I thought it was amazing! I felt I had the best night in my life!

At the end we celebrated our great playing! We had punch and Christmas cookies! For one thing I was not bad for a beginner! I felt great about that!

Band Concert

Yesterday was our band concert. We were the last people in the gym so we got to play first. We played six songs they were Hot cross buns, Jolly old Saint Nicholas, Au Clair de Lun, Merrily we roll along, Country Walk and good King Wenaslas. Merrily We Roll Along was a repeater so we would play the song and then wait two seconds and play it again. Before one of the songs one of the saxophones let out a big " HONK" and everyone started to laugh and some people missed the first half of the song. I had a lot of fun and I can’t wait until next year when I get to do it again.

On December 18th the two fifth grade classes had a concert and we played six different Christmas songs. I thought we did great except when Derek started to play at the wrong time but we made up for it.

I thought we did a good job. I thought so because the sound was together and sounds sounded the same. It was hard because we did not know where we were suppose to go after we were done, but I thought we got there all right. The concert was very interesting when the older kids were playing. We should probably listen to the music so we Know how we will sound if we keep playing. I hope that we have a concert at spring. …Chelsea

I think that our Christmas program was a lot of hard work. My instrument that I played was the Flute. The Flute was very hard to play; it took a lot of air There were only 6 Flutes, 15 Clarinets, 6 saxophone’s, 3 drums and one bell set. Our band teacher was very proud of us and said we did an excellent job. I hope that next year we will have as much fun as we did this year. …Kayleigh
