The Title 1 Program

in Arcadia & Onekama

Title 1 provides services to all students who need extra help in reading, math, science, and social studies in Grades DK through 5. Mrs. Zajac and Mrs. Cook work in all the classrooms on on a weekly schedule. They may assist one student or a small groups of students in learning and practicing specific concepts and skills. All students at one time or another need extra help. The goal of Title 1 is to help all students be successful in their education and increase self-esteem.

Mrs. Zajac also works with the 4th Graders as they prepare for taking their first set of MEAP tests in January. They are practicing specific strategies that will improve their reading skills and help them be successful on the tests.

Mrs. Cook spends most of her time in Arcadia. Monday-Thursday she works in every classroom for at least an hour daily. In Arcadia there are two classes of both Second and Third Grade. Fridays she helps the First Grade classes in Onekama.

The parent involvement program is the last but essential part of Title 1. This fall there was an evening program "Helping Your Child Get a Good Start and Be Sucessful" for parents. Ms. Chris, our Social Worker, provided parents with many good suggestions for working with their children at home. Also, there was time for questions/answers/sharing. We plan to have more programs for parents.
