The Garden Spirits
by Mary

For two Thursdays now kids in the fifth grade have been helping Miss Bishop with the Children's Garden in between the first, fifth, and sixth grade rooms. Some things we do are dig up dirt and plant flowers and trees. Yesterday ( Thursday the 10) we planted a Dogwood tree. Michael's grandfather came on Thursday to help out. Everybody pitched in to help dig. The dirt pile was really hard, like cement. We could barely get our shovels into it, but with the help of Miss Bishop we finally got the dirt to be digable. After it was digable we got quite a bit of it into our wheelbarrows.

I work after school at the Garden Sprit. We do things like weeding and planting. The best thing about working after school at the Garden Sprit is seeing thing bud and grow. I love to do it and plan to do it until I'm in 8th grade. (Shannon took the picture above and the one below)

I like to have stuff to do after school especially gardening. My grandpa was there too. He likes to garden and he likes to work with kids. ...Michael

We put aluminum sulfate with the plant to lower the pH level so the plant had more acid. I enjoyed this experience. Someday I would like to have a small garden at my house. I would like dogwood trees like we planted. They are really pretty. ...Max

Garden Spirits is a fun club. When I went we cleaned out the garden beds. There were weeds and old flowers from last year. We had ice cream. I want to go again but I couldn't go this time. ...Sabrina

Garden Spirits pictured here include Mary and Shannon in the front and Max, me and my Grandfather in the back. Miss Bishop is the leader, but she was taking the picture so she isn't in it.
