Ron Schmidt Ron Schmidt, author of Voices of Wolf Lake and That Pig Lucy, visited with students at Onekama and Arcadia Elementary. Ron's seeing eye dog, Patti, accompanied him. I really liked Mr. Schmidt's presentation. I had never seen a person read Braille before. It looked different when he typed on his Braille typewriter. His books were really interesting and I hope I can find and finish the parts he did not read. His books were very well written . I can tell, because they made me want to read them. ...Nathan, grade 5 |

An
author came to our school. It was neat. He told us how he
got the ideas for his books. He explained how he did
everything. He got to answer our questions. One of his
answers was about how he rode a bike when he was younger.
It must have been hard. He said it is not that hard being
blind. I think it would be. ....Brittany, grade 5

Today a man came to our school. He was a blind man. He had a dog that shows him where to go and he can take the dog everywhere he goes. the man loves to read. Matter of fact he rights books and reads books with Braille. Braille is something like little dots on a piece of paper that he can read with his fingers. The man is a normal man, it is just that he uses his hands and ears and senses instead of his eyes to do things. He types with Braille and he typed two books. He is a very nice man. Patti is a nice and smart dog too. ...Taylor |
I thout that
it was neat to have Ron come in and tell us what his
books are about and what it is like to be blind. I thout
that his books were really interesting, but what I really
liked was how he read in Braille. I thout that was neat
how you could read in the dark when you read in Braille.
