Jennifer Werts, "It was fun making the T-Shirts because it is a new form of art for me. The soup dinner will be a nice way of sharing and bringing people together surrounded by the colorful shirts. It will make us feel happy about our efforts to help others." Angela Diesing, "Doing the Tie dye/ Batik project brings Art to life through our own individual expression. We are using Art to reach needy children in the same way as the Uganda Orphans are when they perform their native music and dance." Christina Hilliard, "Participating in projects like the Uganda Orphans benefit makes you feel better about yourself. We are using art to express ourselves, to experience different cultures while helping others." Heather MCDonald, "It is great to help others through art in the creation of these T-Shirts and to involve the community with the food donations. It is giving a piece of ourselves to less fortunate kids. Note: Over $1000 was raised to help the Orphan's of Uganda. For the second year in a row the NHS students were able to make a sizeable contribution of Soup, Bread and cookies leftover from the dinner to the Choices Safe House where it will feed Mother's and children who are victims of domestic abuse. A box of tie dyed T-shirts were also contributed for these children. As an Onekama citizen who attended the Soup Dinner stated, "How in the world did a small town like Onekama get involved in such a wonderfully meaningful project like this helping these Uganda Orphans when this country is so removed from the lives of these children? What a wonderful learning experience for both the students and the community. I congratulate the efforts of all those involved." Everyone's comments that evening were positive and supportive. The NHS thanks all those who supported our project. |
Onekama's National
Honor Society Toria Miller. "I really enjoyed designing the Posters for the Empty Bowl Project and for The Uganda Orphans project. I think it was one of the most fun jobs and yet most challenging. It takes a lot of planning and creativity to make a poster that will catch peoples' eyes and to tie it all together around our theme. Dan Bowman, "It's two for the price of one. We are learning a new art form, batiking, while helping others." Ed Bradford & Showcase Display
Sarah Wild, "I was very pleased to have the opportunity to design the tickets for both the Empty Bowl Dinner last year, and the Uganda Orphans Sharing Soup and Hope dinner this year. I designed the ticket to be a keep sake as a reminder for those that participated of their generous contribution. I'm very glad I got to participate in both of these projects: to be able to contribute both to my local community and to also reach out to an international community in need. |
