In art we made clay bowls to raise money for Ed Hommer's project. Ed Hommer graduated from our school. He lost his legs because of freezing. His foundation is to help people get new legs like he got.

We get money by making bowls. The process to make the bowl is this. First you get a piece of clay and split it in half. One piece small and one big. You take the big piece and put your thumb in to it and start pinching until you have a bowl. Then take a piece of paper towel and lay it in foam bowl for the shape. After that you take the small piece of clay and roll it into a worm and design it with different tools. Then they get fired in the kiln. Then when they're fired you gloss with three coats of liquid glass. After that they get fired again to melt the glass into the bowl. That’s how you make a clay bowl.

Last week we started to make bowls for the Empty Bowl Dinner. First Ms. Woolman gave us some clay to work with. We formed it in a Styrofoam bowl, and with the extra clay we had we had to fill in the cracks. With my pencil I formed the letters Red Wings. And on the inside I wrote Hull 17, and Shanahan 14. Then she heated it in a kiln.

The next Tuesday we glazed the bowl. I haven't seen it yet but I think it is going to turn out great painted it red and white sinse I like the Red Wings and all. The money goes to Ed Hommer's Foundation to help people. Last year I found my bowl, I wrote Dale Earnhardt on the side.

Making the bowls was fun. It was fun because we made it out of clay, and then Mrs. Woolman fired them and made them hard. Next we painted them, but we had to use 3 coats of paint on the bowl. In a couple days she is gonna fire them again so they will look nice. Then on the day when we sell them which is on the 25 of February.

My bowl is like a plate kinda. It is yellow, blue, torquis, red, and white. It is like a fossil cause it has a lot of squiggly lines and it has a lot of designs. It is also like an artist bowl because I think it is really cool.

For art this week our class and Ms. Woolman made bowls for the Empty Bowl Dinner. First we got a piece of clay and pinched it into a bowl and made it perfect. Then we fired them in the oven. After that we glazed them with different colors. Now Ms. Woolman is going to fire them and get them ready.

When the bowls are ready we’re going to bring them to the Empty Bowl Dinner. The money from the Empty Bowl Dinner is going to be given to the Ed Homer High Exposure foundation. The foundation is for assistance obtaining prosthetics.

In art class my class is making clay bowls. They will be used at the empty bowl dinner. We shaped them in our first art class and then in the next art class we put glaze on them. Mine was really pretty. It said Maggie on one side and Bo on the other. In the middle it said K.S. The bowl was light blue on the outside and bottom, light green on the inside, and red on the edges and over the Maggie and Bo. This was a really fun project and I hope to do it again sometime.

In art we are making bowls. What we did to make the bowls is we first got clay and we shaped it to look like a bowl. Then Ms Woolman fired them in a kiln. The next thing we did was paint the bowls with clay paint. Ms Woolman has to bake them again and then we have to glaze them.

We are doing all this for the Empty Bowl Dinner. They are going to sell the bowls there. The money is going to the Ed Hommer foundation for poor people who don’t have the money for artificial legs. I hope we help some people.

Help for the Legless

In art class we have been making clay bowls. They are for the Empty Bowl Dinner. First we put a ball of clay into a paper bowl and made the shape of the paper bowl. Next we decorated it with clay stampers, fork, markers, and other things that make cool texture. Then we glazed it. I don’t really know what we are going to do next.

The dinner will be at the school and people will eat soup out of the bowls. People will come to the dinner, and pay a $5.00 fee. The money will go tword Ed Hommer’s High Exposure Foundation.

Making the bowls for the Empty Bowl Dinner was really fun. My friends and I try to get our bowls, but everybody always takes it. I guess we just make good bowls. To make the bowls we used clay then we had to glaze them. I put my name on the outside of my bowl so nobody will get it.

You get a ticket for a free bowl when you pay to get in. I always go to the Empty Bowl Dinner. They have great soup. You can only get one bowl per ticket. There is always a lot of people there.

For the Empty Bowl Dinner our class made clay pinch bowls. My bowl had a lot of detail and design or that’s what I think. I used some stampers that would stamp things like a butterfly or a flower. For glazing our bowls I used a lot of color. I used yellow, red, teal, snow fire, sea mist, snapdragon, baby blue, and a light green. The snow fire, sea mist and the snapdragon all had minerals in it. When you fired them up the minerals would melt and make a really cool color. I think my bowl will turn out really good.

The cause that we’re raising money for is people with no legs. It’s for poor people that can’t afford to buy the legs. In stead of crawling around for the rest of their lives we can get them a pair of legs. I’ve never gone to the Empty Bowl Dinner. I really want to go this time for two reasons. One is to get my bowl and the other is to get someone a pair of legs. Sherece and Katherine said they would go too.
