on Onekama's Empty Bowl Project 2003 The Empty Bowl Dinner is a very good way to raise money. This year we are raising money for the Ed Hommer foundation. I enjoyed helping the 3rd graders make bowls for the empty bowl dinner. It's cool knowing that I;m helping younger kids do something for charity. Watching the 3rd graders try to make the bowls was really fun. They have such different personalities - some were quiet and worked really hard to make theirs look good, others were talkative and didn't much care. For the most part I think they had a good time and it's nice to know we can help others. ...Megan Mattson
I enjoyed working with 3rd grades to make their bowls for the empty bowl dinner. The only problem was that they gave me a hard time. I got to know a couple of them because they communicated a lot! They did a good job in trying to shape their bowls. I think that the bowls turned out well and they are going to be sold easily. When I helped the third graders make their empty bowl dinner bowls it was really fun, they act so much different from us. Their sense of humor is way different too. Being with them brought back memories of when I was in 3rd grade and the way we acted. My 3rd grade partners were all very cool kids! Ed Hommer sounds like a great guy and I thought it was good how he followed his dreams. I also think its a good idea to make bowls. It gets the school involved. Helping the third graders make bowls was actually fun. They seemed really excited to work with us and they did a great job with their bowls. I think that the empty bowl making was a good switch from the usual things we do in class. It was fun making the bowls using the cookie cutters to make animals. Also the empty bowls are for a good cause, in that it raises money for charity for Ed Hommer. I don't like playing with clay too much cause I don't like to get dirty, but it wasn't too bad. ...Dan McElreath I thought that making the bowls was a lot of fun and helping the third graders was challenging, but fun at the same time. It would have been nice to get to keep our bowls, but knowing that it is going to a charity was a good feeling. Making the bowls for the empty bowl dinner was pretty fun. I only had time to get on of mine done. Helping the third graders was fun because you got to feel what it was like being the teacher and showing them how to do something they weren't so good at. It was also fun because you knew what you were making them for. The Ed Hommer foundation sounds like a good thing and something we need to help out.
