Splatter Painting!

On Monday's Art class we splatter painted. When splatter painting you basically throw paint on a piece of paper. You can be creative and use your hands, feet, or a paintbrush to make an interesting pattern. I drew a picture of different colors dripping down a piece of paper. The drawing represented a river of many thoughts. Some of the streams are beautiful and exciting, and some are ugly and mean. I really liked drawing this. ...Alex Savory

Reflection of Splatter Painting

Throwing myself into the painting consists of the process of splatter painting. This process and type of painting is exciting and spontaneous. You never know what colors you will use or what type of tools to use. My painting was particularly "easy". It consisted of dropping blobs of paint along one side of the paper and then picking it up so the colors would run down the paper on their own. This was nice because the painting was one of a kind. To me in splatter painting the process is most important but in this certain piece of work the product is most important because the process was so easy.

I thought that splatter painting was fun. It was entertaining and easy, but I really didn't think it was all that difficult. Almost anyone could create a good looking splatter painting. It was fun to get your whole body into it and to think of new techniques such as our drippy one. I think that splatter painting is fun because it is done on such a large scale. Our painting reminded me of a cave. The drips look like stalactites. This would have been cooler if we had done it on a colored background. The color blue would be good. ...Luke Allen

What I feel about the process of our abstract painting is that there will be a sense that you do not know what you are doing. I just made things up as I went. I felt like I was starting to go crazy with the colors. The abstract painting looked like an explosion of too many colors. ... Chris Smith

Actually, I really enjoyed this project. The process was quite simple, you just keep a clear mind while you are doing it so you don't try to actually create something out of it. When I was doing this, for some reason, I felt happy and occupied, but like I said before I kept a clear head. Mine just looks like an exciting piece of art that is crazy with a lot of colors. There are thin lines, flat lines, blobs, etc. I think the product is most important because you come out with something totally spontaneous, and you don't have a goal of what to do at the end? ...Danielle LaRue

Splatter painting, in my opinion, has to be the most fun and free form of painting I ever used. There is really no way for you to mess up splatter art.

When I was in the back and splatter painting the rolled paper, I used many techniques. At first, I used a wide brush and flung paint so there were multi sized dots everywhere. Then I used a stick and dribbled lines all over. Finally, I just used my hands and dumped paint all over. The paint dumping idea wasn't the best because there were big puddles on my a paper which made the colors run together and turn brown. I think you shouldn't use so much paint at one time. Less is more. ...Raychelle Noel

Splatter painting is a relatively easy process. You just use your hands, paint brushes, and whatever you want to "splatter" paint onto. Splatter painting is usually the funniest way to use paint. Most people are excited and feel more free while doing it. Splatter paintings are usually easy to identify. They're usually a bunch of streaks and globs of paint. Normally they are colorful and have no real focus. The process of which one does splatter paint doesn't really matter, it's the product of your enjoyment that's more important. ...Ashley Dalke

Splatter painting is a type of art that doesn't really require any artistic skill. It is done by dipping a paint brush, stick, tooth brush or other object into some paint, which can be watered down, then flinging the paint from the brush onto a paper or canvas. When it is done, it looks abstract, and there isn't really a picture, but more of just an expressive painting. Splatter painting is simple and can be relaxing and a way of freely expressing how you feel on paper. The directions of the "flinging" will determine how the lines and dots will look in the finished process. ...Rebecca Bowman

In the splatter painting, I mainly concentrated on trying to fill all of the white spaces with various colors. Our splatter painting, in my opinion, was the tears of a Sloth tied to a Stick. I felt as if I needed to concentrate on the sloth crying partly, but I just let my hands guide my splattering. It was an interesting experience, but is not my field in the art category. ...Kellen Story

Painting last class was a lot better than most because we could paint whatever we wanted and didn't have to paint one certain thing. My picture just llos like a lot of paint all put together. The most important part of last class was just being able to do whatever type of painting we wanted with no rules about what or how to draw. the product wasn't really good or anything, but it was fun to do. ...Sarah Acker

When I was splatter painting the process I chose was to splatter with a paint brush and also with my hands. When I was painting I felt really good. It was a lot of fun. My splatter painting looks like a butterfly. The most important part of splatter painting is the process. The more energy that you put in to your painting the better it will turn out. I really enjoy splatter painting especially with my feet. ...Jamie Meister

During the process of splatter paint, you are completely free. You are able to make any design by just splattering on the paper. When doing the painting I felt free--I had no restrictions. I think the most important thing is the result-- because everything turns out differently and shows originality. ...Jessica Rick

Well, I really didn't do a whole lot of splatter paint but what I did i enjoyed. I pretty much just paintd abstrack images and didn't splatter. I painted a picture of Sarah. It was pretty goofy looking. Even though my painting was horrible and looked like some old grandma it actually took me a while to finish it. I also did a painting of some guy with a flat top. I didn't put as much time in that one as I did the others. ...Andrew Norton

I thought that splatter painting was definitely an expression painting. It allows you to be very free with the expression too. The process of the painting is a lot more important than the product. There are so many important details that go into the painting. Every movement is original and shows and artistic motion that is defined in the painting. When splatter painting I feel free. The movement with your body makes you open to so many things. There are endless possibilities to your paintings. The colors, mixture, design and details are important in the process of the painting and shows the action that you put into the painting. Through the painting, you can see the emotion of the person and the way they felt during the process of making the art. ...Ashley Hart

When I think about last class when we did splatter painting the first thing I think of is the mood that the classroom held that day. Everyone seemed refreshed and lively. First off most of us started using brushes, but as class went on and we got more into our projects we started rolling up our sleeves, using our hands and fingers to make Different shapes, textures, designs and splatters. A few even took off their shoes to make toe splatter paintings. I felt like a little kid again --having fun and getting messy. Something really cool about these paintings are the way the colors blend and swirl together since you just keep grabbing and mixing more. If splatter painting looks this cool on a piece of paper--what about a whole room? That would be crazy fun. I think the most important part of splatter paintings is what and yow you Do it --you just have to let go -- Be crazy -- not think-- and have fun. ...Jade Bolthouse

I felt like a Hebrew in black tights. I went and got some paint in a pallet and then took a brush and painted the marvelous "Barney" in action. It looked more like a blob, but it was purple and it did have a barney shape. ... Justin Jones
