PENGUINS

The class learned about penguins during "P" week.  They did an experiment that showed how the wax in the penguins feathers keep them warm and dry.

First the class colored the penguins with crayons.  Crayons have wax just like the penguins feathers.

They colored the artic hare with markers. Neither have wax in them.

What will happen when we spray the penguin and hare with water?

Olivia sprays the artic hare and notices that the water soaks right through the paper.

After coloring the penguins with crayons, when you spray it the water will bead up.  This is how they stay dry.

Emilee colors her picture.

The water on a paper towel soaks through...like it would on an Artic Hare.

The water on the wax paper beads up....just like it does on a penguin.
