We learned all about FIRE SAFETY!

Mrs. Veryser's Young Five's class, along with Mrs. Bromley's Kindergarten class and Mrs. Jordan's 1st grade class received a visit from the Onekama Fire Department. Tom and Ruth Zupin, both volunteer firefighters brought in equipment to show the children. Tom explained the different parts of the uniform and what to do if there ever was a fire. After the presentation, the children went outside to look at the fire trucks. The visit was called short though because they were called to a fire. The children watched as they sped off with their lights and sirens on. It was a fun visit!

Tom explains the protective layer on the coat.

Next he shows how heavy the pants are.

He tells the children what the air mask is for.

Then he put it on and demonstrated how hard it is to hear a fireman talk when they have the mask on.

All the children enjoyed listening to him talk.

These Young Five kids were able to try on two of the fire hats.

This is what a firefighter looks like in full gear.

Ruth helps him get the big tank of oxygen off his back.

The children take a peak at the fire engine.

One last picture before they got called to a fire!

Thank you

Tom and Ruth!
