What is DK?

by Mrs. Veryser

Many people ask me "What exactly is D.K.?" D.K. is very similar to kindergarten, but it is for a child who is not quite ready for kindergarten. We do a lot of the same things, but at a slower pace and more with individualized attention. There are only seven students in my class, which allows us to do a lot of hands on activities.

My students have all the same specials as the other grades (P.E., music, art, library, computers), but dismiss at 1:00 p.m. with a chauffeured ride home in the school suburban.

Some of the things we have been working on are letters, numbers, and colors. One of their favorite activities is writing in shaving cream. I put shaving cream on their desks and we practice making letters and numbers. The kids just love it!

We are always making art projects and decorating the hallway.

Through the rest of the year we will continue to learn the letters and sounds, numbers, shapes, and more. It will be fun to watch them grow and look back on how much they have progressed. I am trying to prepare them for a very successful year in Kindergarten.

Kyle works on his morning activity sheet.

Jami and Emily are doing a great job coloring their pictures!

Kyle, Cody, and Dylan play on the farm map.

Dylan shows some of his dance moves while listening to "Greg & Steve".
